Der Aushub des Bodens aus dem Schlizwandgraben erfolgt mit Schlitzwandgreifern oder Schlitzwandfräsen.
Die Breite des Aushubwerkzeuges ist in der DIN 4126 ( Abschnitt 7.2 )
genormt mit 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150 und 200 cm.

Folgende Aushubwerzeuge sind gebräuchlich:

1. ln Deutschland hat sich der schwere am Seil hängende Schlitzwandgreifer kombiniert mit einem dafür geeigneten schweren Bagger, durchgesetzt. Dieser Schlitzwandgreifer hat meist eine mechanische Schließvorrichtung, gegebenenfalls auch eine mit hydraulischem Antrieb.

Die Breite des Aushubwerzeuges liegt in der Regel zwischen 60 cm und etwa 1,00m.
Es sind auch schon Schlizwände mit 1,50 m bis 2,00 m Breite ausgeführt worden. Schlitzwandgreifer haben seitliche Stabilisierungsvorrichtungen und meist ein sehr hohes Gewicht ( 70 bis 100 kN ), um eine vertikale Wand herstellen zu können. Die Vertikalität eines Schlitzwandgreifers kann mit einem eingebauten Inklinometer
( Neigungsmeßgerät ) überprüft werden.

Ein erfahrener Baggerführer kann am Verlauf und an der Verdrehung des Seils ein Schieflaufen des Greifers erkennen. Mit dem am Seil geführten Greifern ist es möglich, Schlitzwände direkt neben bestehenden Gebäuden auszuführen. Die Tiefenleistung eines Schlitzwandgreifersbeträgt ca. 15m pro Schicht.

2. Vor allem in Frankreich wird häufig auch ein an einer langen Kelley-Stange starr
geführter Greifer eingesetzt, der meist eine hydraulische Schließeinrichtung besitzt.
Dieser Greifer hat sich auch für flüssigkeitsgestützte Großlochbohrungen bewährt.
